Pin A savory, juicy beef burger topped with sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese, served alongside crisp, golden waffle fries & perfect for a satisfying meal.
I first made these Mushroom Swiss Burgers for a casual family weekend, and they quickly became a favorite. The mix of earthy mushrooms and melty Swiss cheese brings extra richness, and serving them with waffle fries always makes dinner more fun.
Ingredients
- Ground beef (80/20 blend recommended): 1 lb (450 g)
- Salt: 1 tsp
- Black pepper: ½ tsp
- Worcestershire sauce: 1 tbsp
- Olive oil: 1 tbsp for burgers, 1 tbsp for fries
- Cremini or button mushrooms, sliced: 8 oz (225 g)
- Small onion, thinly sliced: 1
- Swiss cheese, slices: 4
- Burger buns: 4
- Mayonnaise (optional): 2 tbsp
- Dijon mustard (optional): 2 tbsp
- Baby arugula or lettuce leaves: 1 cup
- Frozen waffle fries: 1½ lbs (680 g)
- Salt, to taste: for fries
Instructions
- Prep Fries:
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange waffle fries in a single layer on baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 22–28 minutes, turning halfway. Season with salt.
- Mix & Shape Burgers:
- Combine ground beef, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Mix gently and form into 4 patties, slightly larger than the buns.
- Sauté Mushrooms & Onions:
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in skillet over medium-high. Cook mushrooms and onions for 7–8 minutes until soft and golden. Remove and set aside.
- Cook Burger Patties:
- In same skillet or on grill, cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side to medium doneness.
- Top & Melt Cheese:
- Place sautéed mushrooms and onions on each patty, then top with Swiss cheese. Cover skillet for 1–2 minutes to melt cheese well.
- Assemble Burgers:
- Toast buns if you like. Spread mayonnaise and/or Dijon mustard on bottom bun. Add arugula or lettuce, then patty, then top bun.
- Serve:
- Serve burgers hot with crispy waffle fries on the side.
